Our Chairman, Derek Mathieson, had a few sleepless nights worrying about the apparent drop in bookings this year, but it was partly alleviated by a last minute rush. They were still somewhat reduced but enough to help everyone enjoy themselves. Forty plus sat down on Saturday to a pleasant meal followed by A Quiz and the presentation of the Chairman’s Challenge Competition.
The Chairman’s Challenge Competition, to the Theme “She’s Always Right” attracted four entries. Joan Spencer collected the Trophy on behalf of Huddersfield Club for their winning video made by Dawn and Margaret Rogers.
A rush of day ticket sales brought the Sunday audience to a comfortable 60 plus to greet our speaker Andrew Vale from BBC training. Andrew took us on a journey through his life from early days in repertory theatre at Great Yarmouth to the present day in the BBC. He gave us an insight to his various jobs, of cameraman, producer, director, trainer and much more.
Currently living partly in Spain and partly in Worcestershire, Andrew's passion for his work was evident in the presentation he gave to NERIAC members, in a very relaxed atmosphere. He also gave us a quick update on the current digital situation in Broadcasting.
Andrew is very much in demand, and NERIAC are indebted to him for giving up his time to come and talk to our members, for those who could not make it to Scarborough...you missed a great day.

Harry Nicholls won the Non-Fiction Runners Up Award for
“A City For All Seasons”
It was great to see so many of the Award winners present to collect their
trophies this year. Sadly we all missed Barry Lockwood, who died earlier
this year and whose tremendously imaginative talent will be missed.
His video “Giant” was runner up in the Fiction Section beaten by his other
entry “Parrot” which also got the Award for Best Photography.
His Awards were proudly collected by his Club colleague, Trevor Spencer.

Finally the Regional Shield for the Best Entry in the Competition was this year won by a Non-fiction entry.
Michael Gough’s “To The Gods” also won special awards for Best Use of Sound and Best Editing.
CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE WINNERS.
